I'm taking a break, from mwbf for awhile. I end up putting a lot of work into it, and while there has been interest, its not enough interest to keep me interested at this time. ;). There are so many possible passions in life. If you want to loosely follow me, I'm going to try and stay current at dreamtimedancer where I don't care if anybody cares. Its for me. more of a web blog anything.
I might be back here in full steam some time later, but for now, good-day.

If you've never seen the originals, seek them out. They are off the wall. So inspired was I, that I decided to make a remix sort of video using this man as the subject. He is clearly on another level. Anyways, I made this video a couple years ago for fun. I spent a lot a time with it, but only going in a certain direction. The trickiest part was the drivetrain – how do you make a wooden chain?

Well, by cunningly replacing it with a huge 128-tooth cog that links the chainring and the gear on the rear wheel. In fact there are six cogs, as the drivetrain is replicated on both sides of the frame to add strength."

Here at the Fanatic Head-Quarters, I like to keep things light. I like to celebrate the things that make me happy. But, every once in awhile something comes my way that needs to be shared. The Catacombs under Paris are said to be around 400 miles long and contain 7 levels. They are so extensive nobody knows for sure how far they go. This is so interesting. I imagine people have made lives underground throughout the ages.

Here's the deal. I happen to know a bit about water as its essential to life. At my house we take our water seriously. There are many methods of getting good water. For some of you tap is okay. For us the idea of chlorinated, fluoridated, medicated, tap water is less that desirable if it can be avoided. So we opt to purchase our water. The most economic way that we have found is to fill a seven gallon jug that I found at fleet-farm in the camp section. Its says "BPA free" so you know their at least trying (lead-free glass is better) Anyways, you lug your jug to the grocery store and you refill the fucker and you feel like a goddamn champ doing it, because your saving the earth and all those other assholes with carts full of individually wrapped mouth-fulls of water can fuckin' die. Anyway...

-So now you got your reverse-osmosis, ultra-purified water bouncing along in the back of your car or bike trailer. Before you go home, STOP, Locate a health food store and pick up some water minerals. These will replace all the essential shit that the purification process took out. You body needs these mineral. It's like the old days when you could scoop a hand-full of water out of the stream. Full of minerals. These are the best kind I have found, FromTrace Minerals Research There is literally silver and gold in this stuff, along with Ionic Sea Minerals and all the other good shit that you never get in your Pabst. --I just want to say living in the Midwest can be challenging during the winter months. To be honest I became disillusioned this winter. I began to believe that I didn't love biking. What? I know. Let me explain; if you remember, I hurt both of my knees in a bike polo accident. One knee got better, but the other one remained injured until about a month ago.

- --For some reason I switch bike frames and was riding around on a fixed gear that was too small for me. This is not healthy for your knees. I rode around on that damn bike for a long time and even competed in a long urban race with it. At the end of the race my knees were killing me.

---Last week the weather here was beautiful. I pulled out all of the bikes from the garage, got air in the tires, etc. The kids were riding around in the street and driveway. I hooked up the bike trailer, we went on a ride and I went on several short rides by myself. It was Great! I felt like a kid and all those good feelings about biking came flooding back.

---At this point I was still over fixed gear bikes. Then I switched my wheels over to my original frame, an old Raleigh Grand-Prix that fits me brilliantly. I jumped on it and whizzed down the street. Amazing, I couldn't believe I was riding around on a too small frame. My Raleigh rides like a champ, the gearing is perfect and the crank-arms are longer and feel better. I envisioned myself riding on and not stopping.

- That was two days ago and I said to myself that it was the best day I ever had. Yard work, family, bike rides and sunshine.

Hello, anyone who's followed this blog in the past. I have been away, but my mind has been growing and the life around me is amazing. I hope I can bring you some of the insights I gain throughout my travels in this ether space.

fixed gear knees

So heres the deal with my knees. For my entire life I have had no problems with them. I figured I was like robocop or something, indestructible if you will. Polo has been really hard on them. Really its two to three hours of grinding on my knees as hard as possible. There was however one instance that triggered my knee troubles. While playing polo, I collided with another gentleman's pedal bike and rammed both knees into his bike. I'm not quite sure how I managed to hit both of my knees, but I do know I hit the right on harder.   So we continued to play on, (shake it off son) after a bit there was another collision where my front tire was taco'd. And hey its not like I go around crashing, but it happens, those boys in Manty go balls out.
       So, my knees are injured and my bike is down. What do I do? I borrow a fellows bike to finish the two games. The only bike available for me had an extremely high gear and was way to short for me. So my legs are pushing hard and not getting anywhere near the proper extension.    "Dig deep" I hear from I team mate. And I do. I finish the night out with aching knees.    Mistake.   I should have stopped right away.
      That was three or four weeks ago and my right knee in particular is f'ked.   I am deeply concerned that I have caused myself permanent damage.
   I did find this tidbit today,

"Across the board, it is universally accepted by medical experts that high-gear, low-cadence pedaling has a high likelihood of causing knee pain and permanent injury. The main preventative measure as well as primary remedy for that problem is low-gear, high-cadence riding, which is only possible with the ability to change to appropriate gears throughout a ride. Fixed-gear riders are unable to avail themselves of that remedy, and because of that, they experience more frequent and higher pressures on the knee than a rider on a bike with gears."

Here is my take, I have been riding brake-less for three plus year and for what?? I through a front brake on and it is much nicer. Forget that whole macho brake-thing. I like my new brake.

Now all I need is a larger cog ;)

Northern California artists Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector built a 65-foot-tall, 10,000-pound obelisk out of around 340 bicycles, and one tricycle. Called "Cyclisk". It was installed on a streetcorner in Santa Rosa, California. Grieve and Spector collected the hundreds of bicycles they needed for the project from community donations.
